2014 World Cup logo announced, we're talkintravel (video)
This Sunday, July 11th, the finals of the 2010 World Cup soccer match will take place in the Soccer city Stadium in Johannesburg with pop star Shakira performing and it could put America's Super Bowl festivities into a new lesser category.  Here's what the FIFA has planned for the big day (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/organisation/media/newsid=1269803/index.html#africas+first+fifa+world+cup+close+blaze+lights+music). But already the new logo and ad campaign for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil has been produced and announced.  Check out the Youtube video below. For more travel...

Breaking news America's Cup will race in SF or Europe, we're talkintravel (video)
This just in from Bernie Wilson of the AP regarding the next America's Cup, the 34th, it will be held in San Francisco or some European city, not Newport, RI, Long Beach, or Miami.  Read the latest from AP: The next America's Cup match could be sailed with a backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Transamerica Pyramid.  Defender BMW Oracle Racing on Thursday announced that San Francisco is the only U.S. port being considered to host the 34th America's Cup match. That eliminates San Diego and Newport, R.I., both former sites of America's Cup racing, and...

After Fourth of July hotel deals with CheapOStay, we're talkintravel (video)
Just ran across this website offering some killer deals post Fourth of July.  How about Aruba for $79. per night or Honolulu for $84. a night, and they have dozens more.  The company is www.cheapostay.com and I've never booked with them so cannot comment on their customer service, but as always, check the fine print, and get on their email list of deals so should you have some last minute vacation time that just popped up, these folks may have the deal for you. They are part of the cheapoair group offering great air fare deals as well.  We visiting Honolulu and...

World Cup finals Netherlands vs. Spain, we're talkintravel (video)
Years of World Cup preparations in South Africa including building new stadiums and repairing old ones have come down to the final event, Spain versus the Netherlands.  The last semi final just finished and Spain defeated Germany (see minute by minute updates at www.fifa.com) by a score of 1 to 0, putting Spain in their first ever World Cup final. A few years ago I spent about ten days in South Africa including Durban, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, and Capetown.  The semi final match between the Netherlands and Uruguay was held Tuesday at the new Green Point Capetown Stadium and...

Northeast United States prepares for heat wave, Gulf still at risk, we're talkintravel.
As if the 98 degree temps that hit the northern eastern coast of the United States over the Fourth of July isn't enough, wait until Tuesday when triple digits will be the norm.  According to the latest from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this week the highs will exceed the hundred degree mark in much of the east coast.  Their latest update has a hazardous weather outlook in the Albany, NY area with little relief at night fall. In the Gulf, Hurricane Alex is still hampering clean up efforts.  According to the latest from Associated Press,...

DELTA LAUNCHES NEW FLIGHT FROM
NEW YORK-JFK TO CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Only direct connection from U.S. to the “Mother City” of South Africa anticipates
easy convenience for FIFA World Cup 2008

June 3, 2008 (New York) – The extraordinary experience of travel in South Africa is now closer and more convenient than ever thanks to Delta Airlines’ NEW direct route from New York-JFK to Cape Town. The only direct air connection from the U.S. to the “Mother City” of South Africa takes off today, Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

The new direct route should prove a boon to U.S. travelers with an appetite for adventure and culture in South Africa. Indeed, the U.S. is already the second biggest market for international arrivals to South Africa. This service builds upon the success that Delta has already enjoyed with direct flights between Atlanta and Johannesburg. The Cape Town service will add greatly to the convenience for travelers headed for FIFA World Cup 2010, which will envelop South Africa and much of the world for a full month June 11-July 11, 2010.

Flights depart from JFK daily at 3:55 pm. Delta customers will benefit from up to 45 convenient connections to JFK from business and leisure destinations throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, including Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando and San Francisco.

Whatever your ultimate adventure in South Africa, Cape Town is a remarkable destination in its own right. A sophisticated gateway to the continent and one of the world’s most beautiful cities, South Africa’s “Mother City” offers hot spots and cool scenes, with abundant opportunities to enjoy shopping, dining and nightlife as well as the nearby Cape of Good Hope and Cape Winelands. The city will also host the World Cup Final in 2010.

“We’re delighted that Delta has selected Cape Town as a direct destination from JFK and look forward to inviting U.S. travelers to experience the wonders of South Africa,” said Sthu Zungu, President of South African Tourism, U.S. “Its vistas of natural beauty, warm people and rich cultural experiences are now closer and more convenient than ever. We hope this will also encourage more Americans to come experience the excitement of 2010 FIFA World Cup firsthand.”
